Why Parents Should Give Paternity Leave - 900 Words

Many people say that there is no greater love felt, then when one has a child. When a child is born, the parents experience many unexplainably strong emotions. The parents have endured nine months of preparing and anxious anticipation for the child. Now the child has come, and the parents get to enjoy their new life with the baby. However, the mother of most families will get to experience much more time with the newborn, than the father. Companies should give paternity leave because it affects the well being of the mother, father, and newborn. Mother of a newborn has many responsibilities, she has to take care of the newborn, do household chores, take care of other children—If there are any, and let her body heal. She has just gone through child birth and there are often times health issues afterwards. Her body has just endured a huge physical strain and now it will take time to heal. Specifically, a body will take a much longer time to heal after a caesarean birth than a nor mal birth. Everyday tasks will be more difficult and then she will also have the demanding responsibility of a newborn. With paternity leave, the father will be able to be there for the mother, taking some of the responsibility off of her. Paternity leave can strengthen the relationship between husband and wife. With the father being home during the most difficult weeks, it forces the parents to split the responsibility. The parents then become a tag-team on the new challenges that face them. The Confessional Style Of Poetry - 1009 Words

Julia Krieman Sensei Drugan ENC 1101.012 16 October 2016 â€Å"The world gives you so much pain and here you are making gold out of it.† (Kaur, 185) This excerpt from Rupi Kaur’s collection of confessional poems, Milk and Honey, shows her feelings towards poetry as an art. It explains how the confessional style of poetry allows artists to transform their pain and feelings into art. Art is always changing, new ideas are brought about, artists create with different purposes. The art of poetry is constantly evolving, poets introduce different ideas and styles based on the message they are trying to portray. The confessional style of poetry is one that allows the poet to speak freely; it is personal and allows the author to share emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Within the last decade the confessional style of poetry has changed because of the growth of certain social issues. It has become a way for poets to express their feelings towards topics like these or describe their personal experiences in a poetic way. Shakespeares Psalm 46 psalm Essay Example For Students

Shakespeares Psalm 46 psalm Essay Shakespeares Psalm 46 William Shakespeare is still suspect. A rough overview of the debates surrounding the author, or partial author, or non-author, reveals that: (a) Francis Bacon wrote Shakespeares plays, (b) Ben Jonson did, (c) the Earl of Oxford penned some of them and died shortly thereafter, and then the bard (or non-bard) stole the batch, (d) nobody knows for sure, and (e) it doesnt matter. Shakespeares corporeal existence is not in debate. More interestingly, the possibility that he, or the person or persons posing as him, might have had a hand in polishing the King James version of the Bible is also not hotly debated that possibility stands as the core of this essay. Shakespeare and the King James version share a curious synchronicity, which the authors of The Story of English, point to: the bard started wrote his last play at the same time the King James Bible was released. Also important is Shakespeares success and favor with the court in the first decade of the 17th century: The young actor-playwright quickly caused a sensation with his plays, the authors say something of an understatement. A few odd facts need to be thrown in: the Authorized Version was published in 1611 and was heavily revised for nine months before publication, so that it would not only read better but sound better. The revision took place mostly in 1610. The committee in charge of revising the initial translation was headed by John Bois and Dr. Anthony Downes, who had also coordinated the initial team of 47 translators, give or take a few. Shakespeare was not among the chosen 47, and he is not credited as one of the revisers. Nothing other than time and place links him to the Authorized Version revision nothing readily apparent to the eye. Shakespeare was recognized as a gifted artist in his own time. He was favored by the same court that commissioned the Authorized Version. And the peculiar power of this Bibles prosody certainly lends itself to speculation. And then there is Psalm 46. I first stumbled upon the strange nature of Psalm 46 in Anthony Burgesss autobiography, Youve Had Your Time. The argument that Burgess makes, as an aside on composing a musical on the life of Shakespeare, is not meant to be conclusive but is offered as a curio. My attitude to it is the same. Shakespeare was baptized on April 26, 1564. It is widely assumed that he was born that year. The Authorized Version was being revised in 1610, by which time Shakespeare would have been 46. In the King James version of Psalm 46 (see below), counting 46 words down from the top, we find shake, and counting 46 words up from the bottom, we find spear. Selah doesnt count it is sprinkled throughout the Bible as a sort of punctuation mark. This kind of word-game is not out of character with someone who delighted in puns and puzzles, and it is also a plausible personal signature, a discrete Easter Egg, possible in a project that was, with good purpose, intended to be as anonymous as possible the members of the commission werent interested in tooting their own horn; they simply wanted to make the Bible accessible. The King James Bible still stands. Revisions and alternate translations and gross simplifications have flooded the market, but the Authorized Version packs a stranger, more powerful lyrical punch. Shakespeares hand would not alone account for its durability, but the possibility adds an odd, attractive piece to that particular puzzle: Why is it that this version of the Bible rings deeper and more true than subsequent adaptations? There is no real answer, and the question itself is dubious: Is the King James version really better than the rest? I think so, and so do William Faulkner, George Orwell, John Updike, Vladimir Nabokov, and a host of other writers Anthony Burgess among them. That said, the bard would have been pleased by the speculation and by the discovery of his signature (deliberate or not) in a psalm, all the more so now that people arent sure that he existed at all. Why Men Marry Certain Women and Not Others free essay sample

After reading John T. Molly’s book â€Å"Why Men Marry Some Women and Not Others† I have a much clearer understanding about why men marry certain women and not others. It’s not just because guys are idiots, but there are multiple reasons to what determines marriage between a man and a woman. First, I would like to discuss the six basic guidelines that are statistically proven that Molly discusses in the introduction. They are simple yet effective such as first â€Å"insist on it’’, a woman needs slowly keep insisting her man that she wants to get married.Second, â€Å"if you are in a dead end relationship, move on†, If women know that their relationship is going nowhere it’s pointless to stay in it. Third, â€Å"love yourself first†, it’s important to love yourself first because how can we expect someone else to love us if we don’t love ourselves. Forth, â€Å"Commit yourself to the idea of getting married†, this is very important because if a woman really wants to get married she will be committed to the idea. Fifth, â€Å"Keep in shape and, watch your weight and take care of your appearance†.It’s very important to be physically attractive because men always wanted to be attracted to the woman they marry, that usually means big breasts and a trim body. Last, but not least â€Å"Time can be your worst enemy. Use time wisely in your search for the marrying man. Time is important because everything has to be taken into account, for example, having kids, there is a biological clock. Now all of the above are guidelines are specified if a woman wants to get married, they all are valid points which I believe work very effectively.I can easily apply these basic rules to my life, for example rule five to be trim and watch your weight, that is very true and I know that very well because I’m not trim so I already lack a quality that a majority of men see as a necessity. Next, in chapter two the author talks about how first impressions and how important they are. What is interesting is that he says it is important to practice how you smile, it can’t be too broad and you can’t walk into a room with a huge smile because when you enter the room it is going to disappear and that will have a negative effect on the people you are around. I personally believe that first impressions have a big impact on a way a person perceives you. I was a t a social gathering and there was one boy who wouldn’t talk to me even though I had approached him. I was confused. The first thing that came into my head was â€Å" what is his problem† , and ever since that day I have never forgot that, but I later found out that he is very intimidated by girls. Till this day I dislike him.A person should always try to be approachable, it makes a better impression. Moreover, I found the part where the author breaks down the marrying type. The author says that to have a greater chance of getting married that a woman should only date the marrying type. The different ages are broken down and the typical commitment age for guys who don’t go to grad school is 28-33. Then after age 37 the chance for a guy to marry become slim and as his age increases his chances whiter away. Now, what I found interesting is that I’m Pakistani and traditionally we have arranged marriages, so all the people we meet that could be possible husband material are interested in marriage. There is no trying to figure out is he looking for a fling or is he serious, because both the guy and the girl are meeting because they have intention to get married. Also, what caught my attention is that in the book they say that a woman with unrealistic expectations has a much less chance of marrying.I complexly agree with that because there are girls out there looking for a perfect, flawless man. A marriage is also about growing and understanding each other, there has to be room for mistakes and sacrifice for each other. Women who are out there hunting for Mr. Right aren’t going to get married and if they do they will probably be unhappy. If humans were flawless life wouldn’t be interesting. Furthermore, there are many stages in a relationship that should ultimately lead to marriage. Being in a relationship is not easy it involves sacrifice and compromise. The following types of women are more likely to get asked out, first, women who date more because they have more experience with men and are less likely going to try to over impress a guy. Second, a woman who has more guy friends and brothers, she understands guys better and can better deal with them since she has an idea of why they act the way they do. Third, women who try way to hard are not going to be asked out frequently. Guys do want to have fun and enjoy being with a girl who is a little casual relaxed.Fourth, women who don’t have sex on the first date, men are automatically going to think that the girl is easy to get with and has slept with many men frequently. Fifth, women who are friendly and positive, men sometimes need a boost or somebody to praise them so they are more likely to be attracted so a woman who is friendly. Then last, a woman who pays attention and shows concern. Men love attention and they crave it. In my personal experience a good is example is when a guy gets a flu it’s like the world ended for them and they become little babies. For example I have a friend who is currently single so with no girl friend in the picture he calls me, and he was sick recently and I told him not to call at a certain because I will be in class, but he calls regardless so I leave class and pick up and he wants to know how take his medicine, and he’s complaining on and on how he can’t move and so on , but when I’m sick I don’t fuss, I don’t complain I’m usual at work working. Additionally, there are some qualities that totally turn men off, such as women who give catty comments, survey says that a whopping 90% of men don’t like that at all and it is a major turn off. Also, if they come to realize that the girl isn’t as positive as he thought, he is likely not to go out with her again. Men are looking for somebody to bring to the positive in them not to make them feel worse. Then if a woman decides to get to serious to fast a guy usually freaks out a little and quickly turns away. Men need some time to think and just enjoy the relationship. Besides, that an important subject that the author brings up is needs and lifestyles. When things become more serious in a relationship many different questions begin to arise, such as are we compatible? The author talks about separating attraction from compatibility because where in a short term relationship only attraction might last some time but in a long term relationship it is important that we understand each others needs. If a couple’s lifestyle is not compatible and neither is willing to compromise then it’s better if the relationship is ended. Another good point that the author brings up is that men try to romance women for example buying her flowers or candy all the time, doing small meaningful things, even if it means he has to go out of his way.Women should enjoy that as long as they can because it doesn’t last forever, I personally think it is a way to woo a woman and flatter her, once a man knows that he has won her approval and now they are in a more serious relationship, he is going to stop. It is normal for a guy to stop and just relax in the relationship when he knows he won you over. Also, the author points out those women who don’t do all the household chores usually get more respect from men. It has been proven that women who want to be treated better and with more respect have a better chance of marrying. Mean want somebody who they can relate to and be sort of friends. This is especially interesting to me because in the past it has always been promoted that it’s a woman’s job to clean, cook, rear the children, and take care of all the household work. This is the message that has been communicated for years and it’s in our power to change the message. I agree with the fact that a woman who demands more respect is better off in the long run. Finally, what this all boils down to is marriage, in most situations women have to bring p the subject of marriage, and also if a man is more willing to talk about marriage he is more likely to purpose to a woman, verses a man who runs from the subject. Women who believe that marriage is essential to happiness have a better chance of marrying. I agree with this statement because that is with everything, if we think something is essential for us to live or be happy we find a way to get it because it is a necessity, and we can’t live without necessities. .

Antigone Jenny Peterson Essays - Behavior, Crime, Dispute Resolution

Antigone Jenny Peterson Antigone Jenny Peterson In our society today, movies and television shows are being broadcast all over the world to many genders, races, and ages. Some of these shows involve many violent topics and situations. For example, the news qualifies as a violent shows because three fourths of every broadcast involves a violent situation. The next generation of adults is exposed to this violence everyday, thinking it's cool or acceptable. I think that if teenagers witness the violent actions in person they would react differently than seeing them on TV. The violent scenes in Antigone are much like crimes that occur everyday. For example, a gang related crime can be compared to one of the many deaths in Antigone. The public views these crimes as normal. Most often violence in the news is ignored or called normal. If more people witnessed violence then maybe more actions would be taken to stop it from happening. I think the violence told in Antigone was very low-key compared to the things we see today on the news. Today, our society likes to take time off to relax and watch a movie. Do you think it's relaxing to watch people die and constantly be injured? Well most of the movies out today are violent. Even thought here are strict rating rules put on these movies, children are still seeing them. For example, The Power Rangers Movie. In this movie, five teenagers take on the roles of fighters. When kids view this PG rated movie they see how cool it is to kill other creatures and human beings. About three weeks after this movie was released in Chicago, two kids were playing power rangers; they decided to take the game a step further by involving pencils used as swords. This game ended with one of the two kids with serious incisions from the pencil. This situation could have easily been avoided if some of these movies were not so violently oriented. To summarize, if the world was more peaceful, life would be easier to live and watch happen. Violence should be avoided at any cost because if it is stopped now life will become happier. Antigone relates to our lives now but not so much that it can influence people to do things that are not right. We have control over what we do; so why is all this violence happening?

The only way to know for sure how you'd do on the new test (besides taking the new SAT exam) is to use the College Board's data to convert your score from old to new SAT. To find out if you’d score higher on the new SAT and why that might be the case, read on! feature image credit:Aspirational/used under CC BY 2.0/Resized from original. What’s Changed About SAT Scoring? College Board premiered the new SAT March 2016, with a new out-of-1600 scoring system that now gives one out-of-800 Math score and out-of-800 Reading score. The increased importance of Math to the overall SAT score isn’t all that’s changed, however; the difficulty of the individual sections appears to have shifted as well. Based on data released by the College Board, a 700 on the old SAT Math isn’t the same as a 700 on the new SAT Math section, and a 700 on the old SAT Reading and 700 on SAT Writing isn't the same as a 700 on the new SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section. Even after adjusting for the 1600/2400 change, it’s easier to get a higher score on the new SAT than it was on the old SAT, especially if you had an average score. The amount by which you’d score higher varies with your scoring range. Old SAT Math vs. New SAT Math The comparison for this section is pretty straightforward: based on the concordance tables released this spring by the College Board, there’s an average 29 point increase on the new SAT Math section compared to scores on the old version. This average does not take into account number of people who score at each score point, however; you can’t expect score 30 points better no matter what your old SAT score was. The graph below sheds a little more light on the matter: Here's an example of how the score difference between the old and new SAT Math sections works out: If you got a 730/800 on the old SAT Math section (shown as a black vertical bar in the graph above) and took the new SAT with exactly the same preparation and skills, you’d likely score a 760/800. If you scored around the national average of 510 on the old SAT Math section, you'd similarly expect to see a new SAT Math score of 540. Old SAT Reading/Writing vs. New SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Comparing old SAT Reading Writing and new SAT Reading and Writing is a little trickier because reading and writing have been smushed into one score on the new SAT (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, or EBRW). The College Board has kindly provided concordance charts to help out with this calculation which show that you can still expect to see higher scores on the new SAT EBRW compared to the old SAT Reading and Writing section scores. If the two tests were exactly equivalent, you’d expect that the combined old Reading and Writing section scores (a range of 400-1600) divided by two would be the same as the concorded new SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score (a range of 200-800), but this is not the case. Instead, students can expect to score between zero and sixty points better on EBRW than they would have on each of the Critical Reading and Writing sections on the old SAT. The graph below gives a more detailed look at how the score increases are distributed across old SAT combined Reading and Writing scores: To put this graph in context, consider the following example: If you took the old SAT, got Critical Reading 700 and Writing 710 (a combined score of 1410, shown as a black vertical bar in the graph above), and took the new SAT with exactly the same preparation and skills, you could expect to score a 740/800 on Evidence-Based Reading and Writing. If you got around the national average old SAT scores of 500 on Reading and 480 on Writing, you could expect to score a 550 on Evidence-Based Reading and Writing - a huge jump. How Do the Changes to SAT Scoring Affect You? The 2016-2017 school year is a unique time for college applications because colleges will be accepting both old and new SAT scores. Theoretically, schools have access to the concordance tools needed to compare old and new SAT scores and admissions officers will do their due diligence to understand that it’s easier to get higher scores on the new SAT. Schools won’t be superscoring between the old and new SAT, so it’s not like you can get a 760 Math on the new SAT and combine that with your Critical Reading and Writing scores from the old SAT for a higher superscore. In practice, however, a SAT result of 510 Math/ 650 Evidence-Based Reading and Writing makes a better impression than 470 Math/590 Reading/590 Writing (even though according to the College Board’s concordance tables and its conversion tool, these scores are equivalent). Even after the old SAT has been phased out entirely from college applications, it will take admissions officers a little while to adjust and align their unconscious, split-second assessments of student scores with the new reality that more students will be getting higher scores on the SAT, and so a 760 isn't as impressive as it used to be. Therefore, if you took the old SAT and scored in a range where you can expect to see at least a 20-point increase in nominal score, you should consider taking the new SAT to see if you can get a higher score. Add effective prep to that score increase, and you might very well be able to get a high enough score on the new SAT to step yourself over the threshold for acceptance for colleges previously just out of reach. BBC DMI project - Essay Example Leadership is defined as the capability to get whole things done by others. The project leadership skill helps to pay emphasis on the efforts of the group members towards the common objective and thus allowing them to perform better (Andersen, 2006). The effective project leadership skill helps in the decision making as well as problem solving process. It provides direction to the staff members in making important decision related to the execution of the project (Andersen, 2006). It also assists in the team building process. Effective leadership skill of an individual guides the team in case of any conflict that might occur while performing the work. If the employees perform well and pay attention towards the project’s transparency then the project will not lead to failure (Shenhar, 2004). Due to the effectual project management skill, it was assured by BBC that the organisation was on its path in order to deliver the programme without any delays.
